This “perched position” will provide guests with a bird’s-eye view of the restaurant, which makes things feel bigger.

The smaller footprint of high-top tables also makes it easier to seat large groups in a busy restaurant. Pushing together a few high tops takes up less floor space than combining several standard tables, meaning you won’t crowd other tables or make it difficult for servers to do their job.

Do Guests Prefer High Top Seating?

How to Use High Top Seating in a Restaurant

High-top tables are more casual and social than standard seating. While that can be fine for a neighborhood bar or casual restaurant, establishments with a formal dining setting or traditional feel may want to skip high-top tables.
In restaurants where high-top tables make sense, they are usually mixed in with standard seating options, like traditional tables, booths, and banquets. For example, you can use high-top tables in the bar or along walls and a mix of standard tables and booth seating in the middle of the restaurant.
If you use high-top seating, the table should be at least 12 inches higher than the standard tables. And if your goal is to have guests linger at the high tops, choose chairs or tables that allow guests to sit comfortably. Having multiple places to rest their feet and easily shift how they sit makes it more likely your guests will stick around for dessert.
